hello, friend of The Deadlands, we're writing you with an update. several updates here they are in the first thing is: 1 - Psychopomp is shutting down novella and novelette publications it's sad, but there are reasons, and a whole post written on why and what happened, which you can read here. some singly good news for The Deadlands, we will now be publishing some novelettes and a novella(s) in our little death magazine in 2026, so there's even more delicious deathy fiction to look forward to. 2 - we have to raise our prices at Patreon also sad, and due to costs rising everywhere, but we're keeping it as low an increase as we can. a $1/mo increase on all tiers will go into effect on January 1st. if you join now, you'll join at the current rates and we will not be raising the price on you, as a way of thanks for early Patron support. 3 - issue 40 is waiting for you + Afterlives, The Year's Best Death Stories 2024 if you already support us as a Patron, THANK YOU, your support enables us to keep publishing amazing things by truly talented writers. if you are on the fence, let this be your solid-but-loving push to support us. in addition to getting in at the current rates, you'll get instant access to issue 40--guest edited (fiction) by our friend Vajra Chandrasekera. You'll ALSO *instantly* get Afterlives 2024, guest-curated by Sheree Renée Thomas--literally, it's available for download right inside. 4 - we are open for fiction submissions! want to submit us your best DEATH stories? we're open for subs until midnight eastern, 12/31/25. here are the guidelines, please read all of them before submitting. 5 - we are making a big push to fund The Deadlands fully in 2026 it costs $1500/mo to publish four full issues of this mag every year. we are currently 59% funded. we need to break even via our Patrons to keep going. look at it this way: we need 300 more people to join us at $2/mo to hit or goal, or 120 more at the $5 tier. that's a fraction of the stories that'll be submitted this month, and about one third of the stories submitted so far. (we'll never charge for submitting stories to us, it'll ALWAYS be free, but it is not hyperbole to say that if we cannot get enough funding to exist in this world, we will not). thank you very much, the deadlands |

These emails will be infrequent, but will hopefully be of use to you. This time around, I wanted to give you a behind the scenes peek at submissions over at The Deadlands. Since we opened, I’ve read 1516 submissions, and have accepted 18 of them. The quality of submissions has been a challenge, because on the whole, stories are just so good—there have...
